Thanks to newly minted capital AP reporter Riley Snyder for reminding me of this 2006 gem about "fringe political operatives," some of whom are involved in the current threats to recall GOP assemblymen.
Even though these folks, especially those associated with the ultimate fringe group, Citizen Outhouse, a front for Michele of the Thousand Tax Liens, rarely do anything but embarrass themselves and even though no lawmaker has ever been recalled in Nevada, I thought I'd take a peek into these...
The Clark County Republican Party has filed a complaint with the secretary of state alleging GOP operative Tony Dane is illegally funneling money into recall efforts against Republican lawmakers that have been filed by Citizen Outhouse front man Chuck Muth.
The complaint, attached below, alleges Dane, in funding mail pieces through a PAC he suddenly seeded with a quarter of a million dollars last year, is guilty of illegal conduit contributions. The complaint cites an impeccable source. The...
UPDATED, 2:15 PM, 1/27/15: With a little help from the incomparable Legislative Counsel Bureau and the state's Bible, "Political History of Nevada," my research tells me there has never been a recall of a lawmaker in Nevada. Never.
So why would we think these exemplars of ineptitude can break that tradition? Of course there is no reason to believe so.
"Although many notices of intent to circulate recall petitions have been filed to initiate recall elections in Nevada, a sufficient number of...
I smell trouble brewing.
Looks as if newly minted Attorney General Adam Laxalt went rogue Monday in joining a lawsuit against the president's executive order on immigration. Despite the issue's huge profile, the new AG did not talk to Gov. Brian Sandoval, without whom he probably would not be in office.
"Laxalt joined this lawsuit without the Governor’s consent or agreement," a knowledgeable source told me. Uh oh.
Laxalt's office confirmed that lawyers from both offices (AG and governor) ...
Good morning, everyone. After reading all of the stuff in the weekend papers, and comments from my broad range of weekly insiders, I really wonder why we are paying attention to what can only be called The Failure Caucus, Not to diminish real terrorism, but these folks – Tony Dane, Citizen Outhouse, Michele of the Thousand Tax Liens – are nothing more than political terrorists, who are relentlessly unsuccessful but have loud enough voices to keep being heard. These folks threatening recalls,...

The AFL-CIO plans to respond to Hambrick's letter at a news conference Tuesday. Why? From the notice: "At a time when Nevada is facing many serious challenges, Nevada Assembly Republicans have made it a priority to wage war on working families, instead of addressing the real issues. In a letter to local governments, Speaker-Designate John Hambrick offered to let them make any changes they want to collective bargaining. We believe legislators should hear both sides...
Good morning, everyone. How do you make so many mistakes and still win? I suppose the answer – unless you are Jim Gibbons, 2006 – is that you have a monster team with a running back who looks like a superhero of some kind. That Ohio State mauling of Oregon was like shooting Ducks in a barrel.
One person who must be very happy is Buckeye Brian Sandoval, a big fan. So, too, for another OSU grad, Aaron Ford. If he and Sandoval can Buckeye bond this session, who knows what could happen? Even a...
Welcome to the Weekly Report.
This week:
1. The Campaign Contribution Project, Part 1
2. The Assembly GOP’s possible tax plan adherents
3. Stavros vs. Carolyn: Race or illusion?
4. Smartest/dumbest political moves of the week
One week until the session starts and the sense of déjà vu is again becoming palpable. Business vs. gaming. Double the payroll tax, the escape hatch of 2003, instead of a graduated tax based on gross receipts. Sales tax on services, which is the only business tax...
Good morning, everyone. If you don’t believe Mitt Romney is running, this Roll Call interview with Rep. Mark Amodei should change your mind. Amodei revealed he had been contacted by the campaign, and in his inimitable style told Alexis Levinson, “Hey I’d love to talk to you guys, but the first thing I want to talk about is what’s gonna change in the ground game, what’s gonna change in the debate stuff,”
Romney, who won the Nevada caucuses easily last time, also has reached out through...
