News item: Nevada’s unemployment rate falls to 7.7 percent, the lowest it has been in six years. Nevada ranks second in the country for the percentage change in its jobless rate over the last year – 2.3 percent
Modern Nevada was built on a fantasy, so it’s no surprise that the recovery, or “comeback” as Gov. Brian Sandoval calls it, has been based on an illusion.
Among the magicians who have become expert at the sleight of hand necessary are lawmakers, especially Democrats, who have posed as...
Today's must-read, as painful as it is, is the Las Vegas Sun's profile of Assemblywoman Michele Fiore.
Seven points:
1. Sometimes you just let a person talk. That's what Kyle Roerink did, and Fiore, as ever, indicted herself.
2. That headline? "A true Nevada political rise." Really? To where has she risen, pray tell? Most number of idiotic comments for such a short time in politics? She has had plenty, and it's not the first time she has bragged about breaking gun laws. (Maybe we should have...
More on this Sunday in my column.
The Rothenberg Political Report has shifted its rating for Rep. Joe Heck's district from "Lean Republican" to "Republican Favored," which could be a blow to Democrat Erin Bilbray's fundraising.
RPR is one of the more respected firms in the country, and its words are heeded in DC and elsewhere.
The rating change comes after Bilbray's tepid second quarter of fundraising that leaves her $1 million behind Heck in cash on hand -- $1.5 million to $500,000. Here's how RPR sees the race:
NV 3 (Heck, R...
A national GOP group announced today that it is targeting the Nevada Assembly and Senate as part of a small universe of legislative bodies to switch to Republican leadership.
The Republican Legislative Campaign Committee declared that the Assembly and Senate are part of its “Sweet 16 Targets" for flipping legislative control. This is interesting because the GOP has almost no chance to take the Assembly, now in Democratic hands, 27-15. But the state Senate at 11-10 is very much in play, with...
Remember that independent expenditure group that ran those ads attacking state Sen. Michael Roberson near the end of his successful primary campaign?
The ads were designed to help Carl Bunce, who ran Ron Paul's Nevada campaign and who ended up getting crushed by the Senate minority leader. Rob Tyree, another Paulite listed on the group that ran the ads, has refused to answer any questions about the ads.
Now the secretary of state's office is demanding to know why Tyree did not file any...
