On Monday, the day before the Assembly Republican Caucus was scheduled to vote on new leaders, Michele Fiore arrived unannounced at the Las Vegas Strip office of Sheldon Adelson.
The second-term assemblywoman, who had helped elevate Ira Hansen to speaker-designate only to see that collapse under the weight of racist and hompohobic offal he had produced as a columnist, had a new plan: She wanted to derail the candidacy of Paul Anderson, who, by most accounts, had the votes to succeed Hansen....

Assembly Republicans named a speaker Tuesday evening, but there was no election.
Here’s what happened, according to several sources:
Ira Hansen, he of the racist, homophobic and misogynistic columns, ran the meeting, which in the unkindest cut of all, took place at the office of Paul Anderson, the presumptive speaker before Tuesday’s machinations. Hansen immediately announced he had in hand 12 signed proxies plus his vote, giving him a majority of the caucus of 25.

In an effort to head off Paul Anderson for speaker, forces inside and outside the Assembly Republican Caucus have recruited John Hambrick to seek the job tonight.
Hambrick confirmed he will seek the job, which was vacated by Ira Hansen after his slew of racist, misogynistic and homophobic columns surfaced. Wes Duncan then seemed to have the votes before opting out for a job with Attorney General-elect Adam Laxalt.
