Washoe County Superintendent Pedro Martinez says he will return to work Friday but will continue to proceed with his lawsuit against school trustees.
"I am going to return to work...but this is not going to end the legal issues," Martinez told me in an interview shortly after the trustees, in an astonishing turn of events, acknowledged they had violated the Open Meeting Law, thus voiding their actions last week.
The trustees' statement, first reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal's Siobhan...
An independent expenditure group that unsuccessfully tried to defeat state Senate Minority Leader Michael Roberson has informed the secretary of state that it will not disclose the donors who paid for a substantial ad buy.
The letter (attached here) from Rob Tyree, who heads Team Nevada Engaged, is quite laughable. Tyree, a Ron Paul guy who was trying to help fellow Pauilte Carl Bunce defeat Roberson, says the group's "mission is to educate Nevadans on these issues," a reference to the "low-tax...

Gov. Brian Sandoval leads Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid by 10 percentage points in a hypothetical 2016 U.S. Senate matchup, according to a new poll that represents the first public release of results in this potential race.
The survey, conducted by Harper Polling earlier this week, also shows, as other surveys do, Sandoval cruising to re-election (56-34) over Bob Goodman. The robo-survey of 602 statewide voters has a margin of error...
The following just went out, and although recalls are tough to accomplish and exceedingly rare in Nevada, with many business and elected doyens behind this, it could get interesting.
(Leslie Mix is the head of the Hispanic chamber, and this is being forwarded around by Jesse Gutierrez, who -- wait for it -- is the husband of Trustee Estela Gutierrez.)
Dear Community:
Below is a letter about recall efforts relating to WCSD. Please fill out your information below and return to this email...
Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have written to Attorney General Eric Holder to ask him to support their bill to ban web gaming.
"We must act before we find virtual casinos making gambling pervasive in our society, invading living rooms, bedrooms and dorm rooms across the ocuntry," the trio wrote this week to Eric Holder, channeling Sheldon Adelson.
The senators assert in the missive that they "fully expect" the Senate to act this year on the bill....
Go to the 2:00:00 mark and watch the usually reserved Kathleen Sandoval destroy the Washoe County school board during a meeting where one trustee (Howard Rosnberg) stormed out and the board tried to present a bill of grievances against ousted Superintendent Pedro Martinez, including stuff that allegedly happened before a recent, positive review.
What a nightmare this group is. Sandoval appeared after a string of speakers showed displeasure with the board, including developer Perry DiLoreto....
Let’s suppose Pedro Martinez has been a terrible superintendent.
Let’s suppose he said he was a CPA when, really, he only has a university certificate.
Let’s even suppose he had nothing to do with record Washoe County graduation grades last year.
That is, let’s suppose the worst.
Even doing so, Martinez looks like a Mensa member and paragon of rectitude compared to the clown show that is the Washoe County School Board, which did not merely botch Martinez’s cashiering last week. The trustees...
