Good morning, everyone. I love this piece (hat tip to Steve Tetreault) that raises the possibility of Sen. Dean Heller running the National Republican Senatorial Committee while Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is up for re-election. I don’t see it, but how delicious. By the way, where in the world does that $400,000 number come from that Heller supposedly has given to GOP candidates?
And his “top priority is to help Republicans take over the Senate and make Mitch McConnell the majority...
Good morning, everyone. Gov. Brian Sandoval traveled to Afghanistan this weekend to hide from a surging Bob Goodman campaign. Goodman gores to China, Sandoval to Afghanistan, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki takes over the state. I kid. Sandoval went with a few other governors, and the RJ’s Sean Whaley was on a media call on Sunday.
Premium subscribers this weekend were shown a detailed breakdown of that $486 million that the governor and his understudy have been bragging about. Sandoval's own budget...
Good morning, everyone. Three weeks from tomorrow, voting begins, dear Flashees. You are about to be bombarded by ads in the MOST BORING ELECTION OF OUR LIFETIME. I am amazed how slow it seems this close to the election. But it’s Nevada, so something goofy and/or outrageous will happen. Soon.
Maybe Harry Reid can spice up the final weeks by pushing for Gov. Brian Sandoval or Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto to succeed Eric Holder? Of course it won’t happen – neither are on the...
Good morning, everyone. It occurs to me as we are a couple dfys and three weeks from the commencement of voting in Nevada that rarely have Nevadans known so little about candidates for the major races. This is a bit scary. In 2012, voters knew plenty about the top of the ticket – the presidential race, Dean Heller, Shelley Berkley. In 2010, Harry Reid and Sharron Angle, Brian Sandoval and Rory Reid were pretty well vetted.
Then look at what’s at the top this cycle. Two relatively unknown...
Good morning, everyone. The Economist, with its usual sophisticated approach, is the latest national – in this case, international – publication to look at the Tesla deal. Headlined, “Tesla’s high-stakes gamble,” the piece begins, “Betting against Elon Musk is surely a fool’s game.” It then delves into the science of lithium-ion batteries and then the economies of scale the gigafactory is slated to bring musk so he can reduce the cost of the power packs:
”The circle he has trouble squaring is...

DAYS UNTIL HARRY REID'S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN BEGINS: 43
Good morning, everyone. He never really had much chance, and I am sure the headline and lede of the story are not what he meant – I hope. But this story and headline are the final nails in a long-ago constructed coffin.
“Cresent Hardy targets minorities.”
“Women, minorities and young voters are the reason the...
Good morning, everyone. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend Matt Bai’s New York Times magazine cover pieceabout Gary Hart and tabloid political journalism. The description of the resources the Miami Herald devoted to essentially catching Hart having an affair in 1987 trikes me as grotesque. But the notion by Bai that this is all political journalists care about these days seems oversimplified and some of his conclusions are simply wrong, as Dan Drezner points out. I have always...
Good morning, everyone. Early this morning, the state released the latest unemployment numbers: 7.6 percent, lowest since August 2008 and 2.2 percentage points under a year ago. The comeback continues! This could really hurt Bob Goodman’s bid for governor.
Beyond the seasonally adjusted state rate, here are the key local rates: Las Vegas, 7.7 percent; Reno, 6.9 percent; Carson City, 7.5 percent; and Elko, 4.7 percent. The national jobless rate is still much lower than Nevada: 6.1 percent. Could...

Good morning, everyone. Last night on “Ralston Reports,” we did another show (link below) on the proposed soccer stadium downtown, which is dead unless Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian changes her inclination. She declared last night that she would vote no as it stands today, which would be the fourth vote to kill the project (it will need only three to stop the funding...
Good morning, everyone. Check out what Politico’s Mike Allen is reporting this morning in Playbook: “READY FOR HILLARY will help with midterms by sending more than two dozen political staff to key states. The “Ready to Vote” deployments will run Oct. 1through election day, helping Democrats in 14 states: Alaska, Ark., Colo., Ga., Iowa, Ky., La., Maine, Mich., Minn., Nev., N.C., N.H. and S.C.”
Notice anything about that group of states? Only one of them does NOT have a U.S. Senate race this...
