On July 8, as he tried to round up support for his incipient bid for lieutenant governor, state Sen. Mark Hutchison was pleased to receive a text from Las Vegas Councilman Bob Beers. “Happy to endorse you for lg,” Beers texted Hutchison at 11:21 a.m., thus removing a prospective anti-Establishment, populist primary challenger known as a fierce campaigner and darling of the Right. Or so Hutchison thought. Beers is now saying that while he endorses Hutchison, he didn’t mean to imply he might not...
Talk about a screwup. Check out the memo attached here. It is priceless.
It’s so quaint, the “none of these candidates” option on the Nevada ballot. It’s so Nevadan, the ability to show all the people in the race they are unfit. It’s so….dumb. And yet it lives on, especially after today's Ninth Circuit ruling that upholds Nevadans’ ability to throw away our most sacred right as Americans, to show the rest of the country we know how to waste our franchise rather than making a choice. Hallelujah! "The district court's ruling is a triumph for the voters of Nevada,"...
Wayne Allyn Root is upset. Root, scheduled this weekend to be an “honored guest” with the No. 3 man in the House, Sen. Dean Heller and Rep. Joe Heck, has demanded I retract the “libelous” claim that he is a birther. I raised the issue in advance of House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy’s trip to Las Vegas on Saturday to appear at a major GOP event. Root, through his lawyer, who has an interesting history of his own (I’ll get to that), says he is not a birther, even has declared himself not to be...
UPDATE, 7/9: The tree huggers have responded: "Carpenter Fire is a Tragedy and so is Collins' Leadership" It is scathing. ---------------   You never know what might come out of Tom Collins' mouth. Or on his Twitter feed. Or in an email. The latest from the county commissioner and potential lieutenant governor candidate: Enviros and forestry service officials are responsible for the awful Mt. Charleston fire. If only cows were still allowed to roam there, he suggested. Oh, yes. He did. In...
At 11:43 AM on Monday, state Sen. Mark Hutchison tweeted his entrance into the lieutenant governor's race. Exactly 10 minutes later, Gov. Brian Sandoval tweeted his endorsement. Why, it’s almost as if the governor had been expecting it. Because he was. Hutchison is Sandoval’s handpicked choice for lieutenant governor, the first time since Richard Bryan in 1986 that a chief executive had so obviously tapped an upwardly mobile pol on the shoulder and asked him to be his de facto running mate....
