UPDATE, 7/9: The tree huggers have responded: "Carpenter Fire is a Tragedy and so is Collins' Leadership" It is scathing.
---------------
You never know what might come out of Tom Collins' mouth. Or on his Twitter feed. Or in an email.
The latest from the county commissioner and potential lieutenant governor candidate: Enviros and forestry service officials are responsible for the awful Mt. Charleston fire. If only cows were still allowed to roam there, he suggested.
Oh, yes. He did.

At 11:43 AM on Monday, state Sen. Mark Hutchison tweeted his entrance into the lieutenant governor's race. Exactly 10 minutes later, Gov. Brian Sandoval tweeted his endorsement.
Why, it’s almost as if the governor had been expecting it. Because he was.
Hutchison is Sandoval’s handpicked choice for lieutenant governor, the first time since Richard Bryan in 1986 that a chief executive had so obviously tapped an upwardly mobile pol on the shoulder and asked him to be his de facto running mate....
UPDATED: Gov. Brian Sandoval, while on the invite, will not attend the event because of a trade mission to Mexico, his office tells me. And Rep. Mark Amodei has a "constituent event in Reno," his spokesman said. Indeed, the Republican Women of Nevada, which is hosting the event, has updated the invite to reflect only three "honored guests" now: Dean Heller, Joe Heck and....Wayne Allyn Root!
Nevada Republicans this weekend will welcome House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy to the de facto GOP...
I think my favorite moment in the first three seasons of “Game of Thrones” is when Cersei responds to Littlefinger's explanation of how he knows that she is sleeping with her brother by telling her, “Information is power.”
The queen regent responds by instructing her guards to slit his throat, then immediately relenting, looking at him icily and explaining, “Power is power.”
I found myself smiling, just as I had been tickled by other priceless dialogue and horrified yet transfixed by the...
A lawsuit was filed in federal court Friday to try to block North Las Vegas from partnering with Mortgage Resolution Partners to seize underwater mortages.
The suit, filed by Wolf, Rifkin, Shapiro, Schulman & Rabkin on behalf of Gregory Smith, comes one week after the council approved moving forward.
My guess: Smith has standing as a resident, but that the Realtors, who have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight the plan, are funding this one.
The suit is attached here.
Gondolier Numero Uno Sheldon Adelson, through his company, has erected a new web site to point out the putative evils of Internet gambling.
The site, StopInternetGambling.com, has a video that begins, "In the history of bad ideas, this has to be one of the worst...."
And there's this on the site, too: "WE URGE STATE LAWMAKERS TO OPPOSE INTERNET GAMBLING AND WE URGE CONGRESS TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL NATIONWIDE."
My guess is this is only the beginning.
