Very strong open letter to Wheeler from conservative assemblyman

Despite bleating from his fringe supporters that the controversy is all about his ideology, Jim Wheeler now has a public critic whose conservative bonafides are not in question.

Assemblyman John Hambrick late Thursday issued an open letter to the assemblyman who said he would vote for slavery if his constituents wanted it and who thinks Southern Nevada should be excised from the state. The missive questions whether Wheeler should remain in office:

Jim,
Your recent remarks on slavery bring to mind an awful time in our nation’s history, and I believe all Nevadans are as disheartened and offended by your remarks as I am.  Your comments have received state, national and even international media attention. They have cast a bad light on the citizens of Nevada. While you were elected to represent the people of AD39, your actions and decisions in the state legislature impact all Nevadans.

Additionally your remarks concerning your attitude toward Southern Nevada and your desire to see the Las Vegas Valley set apart from the rest of Nevada leads me to question your commitment to advancing policy that benefits everyone in Nevada, not simply your district or region of the state.

I strongly urge you to contact the various Chambers of Commerce and the editors of the various newspapers in your district to gauge their response to this controversy.

You need to take time to contemplate what you should do in the next several days.  Will you still be able to adequately represent Assembly District 39? I question how you will be able to advocate for future legislation and your constituents, given your remarks - and the offense and disruption they will continue to generate.

How will you be able to effectively lobby for your future bills knowing they very well could be doomed not because of their content but rather because of the messenger?
Jim, I feel you may have damaged your ability to be effective.

John
