State Senate Democrats in disarray

State Senate Democrats, relegated to the minority in 2015, met Wednesday but could not find consensus on a new leader, sources say.

The outgoing majority leader, Mo Denis, still wants the job. But so do Aaron Ford and Kelvin Atkinson. And none have a majority.

At least not yet, so they postponed the vote. "There's no rush," Tick Segerblom told me.

Ford is seen as the most moderate, but apparently has the backing of progressive Pat Spearman.

Denis is obviously the nice-guy candidate (again), but the Democrats finished last in 2014, so that doesn't help.

Atkinson, one insider told me, may end up being the consensus choice.

I also understand Segerblom is waiting in the wings, but did not say he would seek the job. But I gather he thinks choosing a moderate like Ford is not a good idea.

Another wrinkle: Segerblom has been approached by folks to run for the Las Vegas City Council seat now held by Lois Tarkanian. His med pot pals are not thrilled with her.

Is he interested?

"I would never run againt Lois," Segerblom said in a non-denial denial because she very well may not run.

What a session this is going to be.

I wonder if any of them asked each other who could best work with the new majority leader. that might be an important consideration. Work with not follow . so that would leave Mo out.
