Ex-Florida Gov and prospective 2016 presidential hopeful Jeb Bush is coming to Las Vegas next week for the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting, but plans to make time to raise money for his beleaguered colleague and possible running mate, Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Sandoval, who has to sweat out whether he will win by 40 or 50 percentage points in November, will raise money that could be used to help state Sen. Mark Hutchison, who is running for lieutenant governor and, should he win, could allow Sandoval to do whatever he wants in 2016. Sandoval is a longtime admirer of Bush and has frequently cited what he did for Florida's educational system.
For some reason, Team Hutchoval does not want to release information about the event. The campaign not only informed me the event is closed to the media but even declined to give me the invitation. Maybe they want to avoid trackers? Or obnoxious journalists? (Please excuse any redundancies.)
Despite the stonewall, I managed to ferret out the original invite, which highlights the exclusivity. It came from Kate Szafran of October, Inc., the outfit that raises money for Team Hutchoval, and went out on Monday:
I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out as we have an upcoming event for the Governor.
There is a private lunch in support of Governor Sandoval on March 27th with special guest former Governor Jeb Bush. Seating is extremely limited. Please let me know if you might be interested in this special event.
Please call me for details.
Kate
Lunch Details:
Thursday, March 27th, 2014
12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Las Vegas, NV
Seating is extremely limited
I gather that space is -- what phrase am I looking for? -- extremely limited.
The email clearly was sent to major donors -- hello, Las Vegas Strip. One person who got the invite told me: "No invite was forwarded and there was no location or host. They’re going to get back to me with details."
Maybe one hour before the event, everyone will receive a simultaneous robocall?
Mark my words: I will find out the details, folks, and post them here.
