Democrats lost ground in key areas of Clark County last week when more than 14,000 voters were taken off the active rolls. According to figures I have obtained from Clark County, here is some of what happened, including in those three key state Senate districts, all of which could be close: ►Senate District 8 (Patricia Farley vs. Marilyn Dondero Loop): GOP gained 100. ►Senate District 9 (Justin Jones vs. Becky Harris): GOP gained 149. ►Senate District 20 (Michael Roberson vs. Teresa Lowry): GOP...
The weekend disclosure of Hillary Clinton’s contract with UNLV reinforces just how far the school’s foundation was willing to genuflect (that’s flexibility!) to ensure she appeared at an Oct. 13 dinner. The $225,000 fee was embarrassing enough for a school struggling with tuition increases and trying harder, it seems, to build a stadium than burnish its academic reputation. The school only made $70,000 (by its own accounting) a couple of years ago when it paid Hillary’s husband $250,000. My...
The candidates, having ceded their credibility and had their backbones removed by party spin doctors, were hiding. Their masters did not want them to debate for fear they might commit a gaffe – that is, they might reveal they knew nothing about anything or something that could be politically damaging. (The horror.) Their roles were simple and they needed to know them and stay mute: They were simply bullets loaded into a campaign gun so the Democrats could take over the state Senate and kill two...
On Thursday afternoon, on learning Rep. Joe Heck had made a cable TV buy, Erin Bilbray sent out a breathless email: "Joe Heck just dropped $44,000 bucks on an attack ad against Erin that will air all across Southern Nevada next week!" it began, before the money pitch came. Really? Is this just a reflex? Anyone with any political experience -- Bilbray is from a political family and supposedly trains future elected officials -- would know an incumbent with a huge money advantage going on the air...
Remember how the UNLV folks boasted they already had enough table sponsors at $20,000 a pop to cover Hillary Clinton's $225,000 speaking fee? I finally have obtained the list of the generous folks willing to make sure the UNLV Foundation makes a profit from the Oct. 13 speech. Looks like they have $260,000 covered. The usual suspects plus some are "World Table Sponsors," as you can see: Bank of America Barnes & Noble College Barrick Gold Bennett Family Foundation Cashman Equipment Company...
Democrats tout tax for education while standard bearer who opposes it says she'll make education funding top priority
Ah, cognitive dissonance. The same Democrats contantly touting the candidacy of lieutenant governor hopeful Lucy Flores today are clogging Twitter with reasons to vote for The Education Initiative, which their favored candidate opposes. Meanwhile, Flores sent out a missive today declaring, "My number one priority as Lt. Governor will be improving our schools." This, even though the LG's job has NOTHING to do with education. TEI supporters, many of whom gush about Flores, are tweeting to the...
I missed the missive when it was sent toward the end of June, but Rep. Paul Ryan, a favorite bete noire brandished by Democrats to pound GOP congressional reps, wrote a letter to help Rep. Joe Heck raise money. I obtained the letter this week and have posted it here. The language is typical over-the-top partisan stuff (Reid-Pelosi-Obama, liberal rubber stamp, evil cometh). But what's interesting is that Heck, who has voted for Ryan's budget plans, would tether himself even closer to a divisive...
