UPDATED, 11/15/14: Finally got an official statement from Gov. Brian Sandoval through his spokeswoman, Mari St. Martin. It's sort of a non-endorsement endorsement, but pretty obvious where he is:
"The Governor is aware of Mark Lipparelli's interest, along with others, in filling the vacant Senate seat. Mr. Lipparelli is a longtime Las Vegas resident who has served the state with distinction as a member and chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The Governor believes that the Clark County Commission would be making an excellent selection if it were to appoint Mr. Lipparelli to the Nevada State Senate."
Mark Lipparelli, the ex-gaming regulator, is the top choice to replace state Sen. Mark Hutchison, sources said.
State Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson confirmed that Lipparelli has his backing to replace the newly elected lieutenant governor.
"I saw his credentials, and he has impeccable credentials," Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said Tuesday after I contacted him. The panel will make the appointment.
I have to also believe that Gov. Brian Sandoval will support Lipparelli, who served under him as the state's top gaming regulator.
I also have to think that Commissioner Larry Brown, in whose district the seat resides, will back Lipparelli.
As for the other members of this unpredictable septet....
This comes on the same day that Assemblyman Wes Duncan indicated he would apply. He may not now.
