Nevadans overwhelmingly support universal background checks

UPDATED WITH CROSSTABS: I have obtained them, and here's what they say (and they are attached here so you can see all the details).

As I suspected, the only place where there is signifcant opposition to background checks is rural Nevada (22 percent). But 59 percent of rural voters feel strongly and 12 percent more somewhat back the idea of universal checks.

Even in the two congressional districts with rural areas, strong support is above 70 percent.

Support is much stronger among women (84 percent strongly support) than men (65 percent).

Liberals (90 percent strongly support) are much more supportive than conservatives (63 perecent), as you would predict.

Lots more data, but those are the highlights.

----

Nevadans overwhelmingly support universal background checks and keeping guns out of the hands of anyone with a history of mental illness.

That's according to a poll of 500 registered voters last month (March 9-13) that I have obtained and was taken by veteran Democratic polling firm, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner. The poll was conducted in partnership Project New America, paid for by the Nevada Senate Democrats. (I don't think it's an accident I obtained the measure late Wednesday, on the eve of the first big gun vote today in DC.)

The results of the second question may not be surprising (of course people want guns out of the hands of someone who has been mentally ill), but considering how pro-gun Nevada has always been, the numbers on background checks indicate a sea change. (I don't have the cross tabs, but my guess is most of the opposition comes from rural Nevada.)
