Huge contributor to Las Vegas mayor's campaign heads company under investigation

A company headed by the largest contributor to Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman's campaign is under investigation for mishandling millions of dollars in client money.

Edwin Fujinaga, who heads Las Vegas-based MRI International, bundled $40,000 through various entities to Goodman's campaign, as you can see here.

Fujinaga's company is the subject of a Jpanese probe and that country's financial regulators are seeking cooperation from their U.S. counterparts. The Japan News was in Las Vegas this week covering the story. The paper has been all over the controversy, and the Review-Journal mentioned it, too, albeit without the Goodman connection.

A spokeswoman for the mayor tells me, "She is aware of this issue and will see what the outcome of the investigation is" before deciding whether to return the money.
