In a series of emails sent last night to his caucus, Non-Speaker-Designate Ira Hansen instructed his colleagues that he is still in charge, that committee assignments will remain in effect and that his replacement as speaker will have to hire the chief of staff he hired and the policy person he wanted.
Oh, this is going to be some session, folks.

To make this leadership transition as smooth as possible we will need to pick up where I left off. The committee assignments will remain the same. Chief of Staff and the Policy position will remain as is (Craig Hulse and Geoff Lawrence). There will be one additional policy position to fill. The caucus committees will remain the same except the new speaker will replace me on the Finance Committee. The only changes on committees will be to fill vacancies created by the new leadership including where I get placed.. This will insure no retaliation from the new leadership and complete continuity for the LCB, lobbyists etc.It will also reduce deal cutting for votes. We do not need to reinvent the wheel at this point. Thus once the leadership change occurs we will be ready to hit the ground running.
While I am stepping down as Speaker, I remain the Caucus leader until we have a formal vote. We will NOT repeat the method as last time. We will schedule a vote for Dec.2nd in Las Vegas in Paul's office again with his permission. This gives everyone an opportunity to thoroughly discuss all the candidates etc.
This is only one week away - after the holiday. We are not going to mess up peoples' plans by rushing once again.
As far as moving offices etc this will cause minimal inconvenience with the LCB staff so please do not attempt to claim some need for a rush in this important decision.
