Dale Erquiaga left Nevada after being an adviser to the Clark County School District.
But, like many before, he missed the place. Now he's got an even bigger education job.
As I told you weeks ago, his relationship with Gov. Brian Sandoval, whom he also advised, made him the odds-on favorite to be state superintendent. And it became official today as Erquiaga returns to replace the mercurial James Guthrie, who went off the Team Sandoval reservation before being told he was no longer welcome.
Erquiaga, who has been a policy wonk for Gov. Kenny Guinn and others, including R&R Partners, will be a great addition to the administration. And Sandoval will listen to him.
Elaine Wynn is thrilled, too. From the release: “On behalf of the State Board of Education, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Dale Erquiaga,” State Board of Education President Elaine Wynn said. “It will be a great advantage to have someone with Dale’s life experiences to guide us as our next State Superintendent. He has a unique combination of deep-rooted Nevada heritage, policy-making skills, and diverse educational background. Above all he has a passionate commitment to lead us through this next challenging period of Common Core Standards, new tests, and our ambitious English Language Learner initiatives.”
