Democrats tout tax for education while standard bearer who opposes it says she'll make education funding top priority

Ah, cognitive dissonance.

The same Democrats contantly touting the candidacy of lieutenant governor hopeful Lucy Flores today are clogging Twitter with reasons to vote for The Education Initiative, which their favored candidate opposes. Meanwhile, Flores sent out a missive today declaring, "My number one priority as Lt. Governor will be improving our schools."

This, even though the LG's job has NOTHING to do with education.

TEI supporters, many of whom gush about Flores, are tweeting to the hashtag #TEITuesday, giving various reasons to support the margin tax. To wit:

This is all well and good, and TEI backers are using social media to gain momentum for a tax major pols are either declaring to be the apocalypse or avoiding talking about. Sen. Dean Heller is the latest doomsayer.

Flores might as well be included in that group, but she keeps talking about supporting education with a broad-based tax plan. And today, she sent this out, again indicating the assemblywoman thinks she is running for governor:

It seems every week another report is released pointing out how Nevada is letting our kids down. That's no surprise – we rank dead last in education funding.

My number one priority as Lt. Governor will be improving our schools. Education provided me with the opportunity to turn my life around, and education is the key to giving all our kids the same chance that I had.

Add your name to support the fight to strengthen education from preschool through college and to create a better future for our kids.

I’m committed to making sure every child in every neighborhood has access to a quality education, because education is the best investment in our future and good schools attract jobs and business.

Show your commitment to improving education for every child in Nevada by signing your name today.

All kids deserve a fair start. Let's work together to make our schools the best in the nation.

Yes, let's work together even though my job would be to preside over the state Senate and chair a relatively obscure commission. I would have zero impact on education policy. Unless, of course, I were to somehow become governor someday in the distant future.

Of course, Flores is the de facto top of the ticket because Bob Goodman has zero chance against Gov. Brian Sandoval, who might as well be running on the Republican/Democratic ticket this cycle. But her job is to block Sandoval from running against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, thus ensuring she stays as LG for at least four years. (But at least she is aggregating email addresses!)

I wonder what all of her fervent supporters think about Flores' vacuous petition: I’m committed to making sure every child in every neighborhood has access to a quality education, because education is the best investment in our future and good schools attract jobs and business.

Where do we sign??

Most Democratic activists support the only choice to fund education on the ballot, yet their darling is against it. That must make their brains hurt

Ironically, Flores' opponent, Mark Hutchison, is on the record backing a $600 million tax increase on mining to fund education. So we know where Flores' foe stands. We know where her core supporters stand. But we don't know where she stands on a funding mechanism for schools, except that she's all for the KIDS.
