And so it begins: SOS raises six figures at kickoff fundraiser for AG campaign

Secretary of State Ross Miller has yet to formally announce his campaign for attorney general, but there is no mystery here: He's in.

And last night at the delicious Craftsteak at the MGM Grand, Miller attracted an electic crowd for his first major fundraiser-- and an estimated six figures.

The event was hosted by MGM Resorts boss Jim Murren and many other gaming executives, as well as other familiar names, were invited. Besides Murren and his better half, Heather, other casino operatvies there included: MGM's Denice Miller, Wynn Resorts' Kim Sinatra, Caesars' Marybel Batjer and Karlos LaSane, Boyd's Gina Polovina and Station's Mike Sloan.

Also there were lead gaming lobbyist and Miller de facto campaign guru Billy Vassiliaidis, NV Energy's Tony Sanchez, Democratic stalwart and busiensswoman Jenna Morton, ex-Sen. Richard Bryan and garbage king Bob Coyle.

What was that smell in the room? Ah, yes: The unmistakable odor of an anointment.

Miller will raise a fortune, so the Republicans better find a candidate pretty quickly. And, no, I don't mean Don Chairez. With state Sen. Mark Hutchison telling me he's not interested and state Sen. Greg Brower having to try to leave the Legislature (again) to run for higher office if he decides to run, the GOP may have a problem here.
