The Las Vegas Sands, which wants lawmakers to convene a special session this summer to pave the way for Sheldon Adelson's stadium, contributed $211,500 to lawmakers and candidates in the two weeks leading up to Tuesday's primary.
The donations, made to candidates of both parties, are highly unusual in volume and breadth so late in an election. Lawmakers, either in a special or regular session next year, would almost surely have to pass a law enabling the stadium financing scheme to divert public money toward its construction.
The contributions, detailed below from the secretary of state's site, show the Sands loadng up on many lawmakers -- some endangered by thier tax votes -- often providing the bulk of the pre-primary money to a candidate. For example, Assemblyman Chris Edwards raised $34,500 in the last period; $25,000 came from Sands. Similarly, PK O'Neill, perhaps the most vulnerable GOP incumbent, raised $37,600 in the final period; $25,000 came from the Sands. The company also gave to Democrats, most of whom have no chance to lose.

This kind of generosity is hard to forget.
